According to WHO, around 6 million people each year die from the harmful effects of tobacco. Most people are aware of nicotine in cigarettes being one of the most addictive drugs. Nicotine reaches the brain within 7 seconds and affects the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and its receptor. Nicotine in tobacco increases the release of the brain dopamine and the endorphins, which produces euphoric feeling and also blocks the transmission of pain signals. It is one of the reasons why people can become addicted to smoking. Tobacco smoke contains over 5,000 chemicals, of which more than 70 are known to cause, initiate, or promote cancer. Another harmful effect of smoking to human body is the impact of carbon monoxide, it binds to hemoglobin to form carboxyhemoglobin and causes a decrease in the capacity of blood to transport oxygen for 5 hours. During education process, we have carried out confidential questionnaire about smoking for first- and second-year students of the Therapeutic Department. The focus of this survey is on students’ smoking and their awareness and knowledge of tobacco’s adverse effects on health. Of the respondents, 66 (83.5 %) are between 18 and 21 years of age, 13 (16,5 %) are over 21 and under 35 years of age,28 (35,4 %) are male, 51 (64,6 % are female. 38 (48,1 %) students were exposed to passive smoking during childhood. 62 (78,5 %) students are current passive smokers. Thus, 15 (18,9 %) students responded they smoke tobacco. Health conditions indicates that 19 % of students defined themselves as healthy, many respondents observed that they have frequent respiratory diseases, digestive diseases, diseases of cardiovascular system, and complained for poor vision

An improved and reformed system of higher education is a requirement for training highly qualified specialists in health care. The need to enhance the effectiveness of training requires studying the factors that may affect both the professional development and the realization of the learning activity motivation. This psychological preparedness for studying at medical school is one of the most important regulators of professionalization. A significant part of candidates to study at medical school are graduates of secondary schools aged 16-18 who do not have stable personal orientation, associated qualities, interests, certain abilities, and outlook. The lack of psychological preparedness of students to study at medical school may be worsened by the lack of positive motivation to work in the health sector. As a result, medical school applicants can be characterized by a lack of psychological preparedness to study. In this regard, there was a need to explore the psychological preparedness of future doctors in the early stages of professional development in the period of studying at medical school. The article considers the problem of motivating students entering medical school as an indicator of preparedness for studying at medical school. It also discusses the issues of educational competence enabling applicants to choose and develop an educational program effectively on their own. It is shown that the preparedness for studying plays an important role in successful adaptation and learning at medical school, since it contributes to the quick inclusion in the educational and professional activities. The results show that the undesirable qualities for forming the preparedness for studying at medical school are lower motivation to get the medical profession and poor performance

The article deals with the experience of pre-university career counseling of schoolchildren at the Medical Institute of North-Eastern Federal University (NEFU). The quality of training doctors and pharmacists in many respects depends on the selection and pre-university education for future students. Career guidance training is important for future doctors and pharmacists. The medical profession requires not only good basic training, but also certain personal traits. In 1993 there was created the Small Medical Academy (SMA) - career guidance, training courses for secondary school students of Yakutsk City; in 1998 the geography of SMA for schoolchildren expanded by opening SMA branches in rural areas. The main purpose of the SMA: to become a professional orientation-training center for students of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), including those living in remote regions of the republic, to ensure the availability of additional education biomedical orientation and equal educational opportunities, seeking admission to medical schools. Among the main tasks set by the SMA, there are the following: to ensure continuity of education at pre-university and university stages of preparation of medical and pharmaceutical staff; to conduct better training of graduates of secondary schools for admission to higher education; raising the general cultural and professional competence of future students. All these activities are aimed at familiarizing students with the specifics of the medical profession, the nature of medical activities, the prospects of development of specialties. Thus, students are introduced to a variety of special medical and pharmaceutical profiles, learn about difficulties, different specializations, terms of training. As a result, SMA graduates make good applicants with the clear vision of their future specializationy

Over the past six years Russian medical schools have been training students in compliance with new educational standards. The current training will allow students to participate in the medical assistance and graduates to work as doctors, because in the process of learning sufficient attention is paid to the practice. Therefore, according to the new standards in medical schools, beginning with the undergraduate level, more time is given to practical exercises. For the purpose of practical teaching methods” in the educational process of training of students of medical Institute was developed and implemented a new elective course on Clinical Allergology. It is important to emphasize that shape the students’ competencies should be focused on the semantic component of the leading types of medical activities. We have developed a working program of discipline and teaching discipline to meet all required competencies. Special attention in reading the course on Clinical Allergology is given to the issues of emergency care for anaphylactic shock and acute urticaria. Instructors developed lectures with detailed training material. The topics of the prepared lectures are relevant for the work of district specialists: “Bronchial asthma: etiology, epidemiology, methods of diagnosis, standards of treatment”, “Allergic rhinitis and pollen Allergy”, “Atopic dermatitis: peculiarities and modern treatment standards”, “Emergency anafilaxiaһ. Particular attention is paid to organization of independent work of students, which is one of the most important components of the educational process and the condition for the development of competence of students. Independent work implies the use of situational tasks and tests designed for each lesson in the students’ preparation to classes. The test in the course includes the control of acquired practical skills of first aid. The introduction of new clinical disciplines promotes the acquisition of professional knowledge and skills

Independent work of students is one of the most important elements of training in high school. At Medical Institute, we pay great attention to effective system of independent work of students, monitoring of individual educational and professional activities of future doctors. The effectiveness of the student’s independent work is due to three main factors - organization, provision, and control. At the same time, the effectiveness of independent work depends on the motivation of students; their understanding and ability to learn independently, to supplement their knowledge. The article describes the study among senior students of therapeutic department of Medical Institute to identify the students’ attitude to carrying out independent work and evaluation of independent work efficiency. The results of the survey revealed that students understand the necessity to perform independent work, but at the same time, experience some difficulties in organizing themselves for independent work. For a successful educational process we can recommend the following measures to improve the efficiency of using various forms of independent work: to give students more time to direct contact with sick children during supervision, to set a clear task in carrying out independent work, and continuously monitor and encourage for quality work. The survey conducted shows that self-education develops in students such qualities as discipline, effort and persistence, thoroughness and commitment, and teaches a process of communication with patients and independent clinical thinking. Thus, individual work contributes to the formation of the necessary qualities for the formation of the future doctor

Providing high quality education based on matching the current needs of the individual, the society and the state is the most important task of the Russian educational policy. The article is devoted to one of the most important issues of modern education - the development of independent activity of students on the course of Phthisiology at the Department of IDTD MI NEFU. It analyzes the educational technology of out-of-class independent work of students. One of the goals of the course of Phthisiology at the department IDTD is the introduction of educational technologies and differentiated criteria for independence of students depending on the specialty and type of activity. The applied educational technology is: the solution to multi-level tasks (tasks correspond to the sections of the curriculum on the course of Phthisiology, and classify as the reconstructive type tasks, allowing to evaluate and diagnose skills, and also to synthesize, analyze, summarize the factual and theoretical material with the formulation of specific conclusions, finding cause-and-effect relationships and creative level, allowing to evaluate and diagnose skills to integrate knowledge of various fields, to argue their own point of view). The set tasks allow monitoring of progress and to evaluate the progress in studying the course. Contextual learning is a technology designed for use in high school focused on vocational training of students and implemented by the system using the professional context, the gradual saturation of the educational process for professional activities. This training is applied during the course in the form of lectures on prevention of tuberculosis in the various age groups, from primary school age to university students of senior courses). Contests in the subject (addressing not only theoretical questions of history of tuberculosis, etiology and pathogenesis, but also a full analysis of a specific patient with discussion of diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment and prevention). Such methods of independent extracurricular work of students on the course of phthisiology lead to high motivation for learning, the maintenance of pace of learning, social and academic integration, and development of cognitive skills

The issues of organizing the students’individual work and education in the modern conditions of globalization, snowballing growth of information technologies, mass distribution of insobriety, alcoholism, smoking, drug addiction, local wars, and various American sanctions are topical. The goal of the report is to share the thoughts and experience in organizing the students’ individual work and education at the course of pathological anatomy of the NEFU Medical Institute. Since 1977, we have introduced in the educational process the definition of pathological anatomy as a science, which favors conscious coverage of the pathological anatomy fundamentals. To control the students’ individual work, we have introduced three copybooks to be brought to each class with the completed assignments: the protocols of morphological examination, a copybook for lectures and a copybook for individual work on the topics of pathological anatomy. In conclusion, it should be noted that defining pathological anatomy as a science is of key significance in the students’ individual work; it assists conscious acquisition of the pathological anatomy fundamentals and forms the clinical-anatomic thinking of the future doctors. The formation of patriotism and sober lifestyle is important for the patriotic, spiritual and moral education of students; knowing Russian anthem is the key instrument here. We suggest to hold a conference, conversations and meetings with the participants of the Great Patriotic War (WWII) and labor veterans, dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War

Teaching of Internal Diseases in medical schools begins in departments of propaedeutic therapy. The Propedeutics of Internal Diseases course covers semiotics and diagnosis of diseases, where students master the logics of constructing diagnosis. Learning basic therapeutic diseases illustrates the significance of symptoms, when analyzing an individual patient’s medical history students acquire the methods of diagnostics. From the first days of work in the clinic, students must master the basics of medical ethics that is included in the objectives of the Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases course. Though the teaching method remains classical in principle, it is constantly improving and changing with the introduction of new learning technologies. Such an approach is necessary regarding the scientific and technical process and the ability of specialists to acquire new knowledge continuously. The training staff organizes classes not only to transmit information to students, but rather to stimulate their cognitive activity, which means the search for new and improved forms of traditional teaching, optimization and intensification of the educational process, increase in the scope and level of organization of independent work of students under the lecturers’ supervision. The main problem is implementing the provisions of the point-rating system of evaluating students’ activities in the medical school. The article lists the tasks and stages of introducing the point-rating system, control weeks and the model of calculating rankings for the discipline. The Guidelines on the point-rating system on North-Eastern Federal University define the procedure of evaluating students’knowledge and are used for the purpose of student-centered learning, promoting the systematic work of students, revealing of their creative abilities, differentiation of knowledge evaluation in the higher education system. The point-rating system of knowledge evaluation is designed to improve the objectivity and reliability of students’ level of training, and the evaluation is used as part of the educational process management at the university. The main objectives of the point-rating system are: -to support the motivation of active and uniform work of students during semester; - to ensure a conscious self-organization their learning activities by students; -to enhance the efficiency of regular independent educational work of students during semester; - to strengthen the control over the systematic work of students during the development of the program through higher differentiation of evaluating results of their learning activities, -to improve the discipline of students and the responsibility for the results of their learning activities; - to get an objective evaluation of student’s academic performance and mastery of the competence of the discipline and the curriculum
