This article presents an overview of the literature data by domestic and foreign authors, their own and joint research on the adaptation features of the Yakut cattle breed. Yakut cattle breed has been preserved and is now being bred purely in Yakutia, the total number of cattle is 2378 heads. Various methods of biological research from classical to modern methods of sequencing and genotyping were used to study the adaptive qualities of the Yakut cattle breed. Ecological and physiological studies and methods of gas and energy metabolism have established that Yakut cattle have the most perfect mechanisms of thermoregulation, while the high content of hemoglobin and erythrocytes in blood indicates the intensity of oxidative processes. Morphological adaptations of Yakut cattle breed are accumulation of external and internal fat, peculiar structure and change of hair cover by seasons. The comparative morphophysiological and immunological study of different cattle breeds found that the indicators of natural resistance are most dynamic by seasons in Simmentalo-Yakut crossbreeds and Yakut cattle. Yakut cattle surpassed (9,1±0,6 thousand/ml) Kholmogorsky cattle (8,2±0,3 thousand/ml) and Simmentalo-Yakut mixed cattle (7,9±0,3 thousand/ml) in leukocyte concentration. The genomes suitable for adaptation to the environment have been identified according to studies using modern genetic methods. Thus, when comparing Yakut cattle breeds with the breeds of the Turan-Mongol group, the region containing FAM134B gene (RETREG1), which is one of the main candidates influencing adaptation of Yakut cattle to extremely cold living conditions, was statistically significant. The genes responsible for antibacterial protection in Yakut breeds are in areas under positive selection. Comparative analysis of whole blood transcriptome showed species-specific differences in the functioning of immunity and disease resistance mechanisms; the gene expression profile of northern Finnish cattle is more similar to that of Yakut cattle than that of Holstein cattle.
