The article presents a comparative analysis of the semantics and functions of horse coat colors in Turkic epic traditions, based on the Yakut olonkho “Dyray, Son of a Horse” and the Tatar epic “Idegey”. The research employed a comprehensive methodology combining structural-semiotic, mythopoetic, and comparative-typological approaches. The author systematized coat color terminology according to A. S. Krasnikov’s classification, revealing significant quantitative and qualitative differences between traditions: the elaborate system of Yakut olonkho (14 basic colors, 2 sub-colors, 9 markings) and the reduced system of the Tatar epic (8 basic colors with no sub-colors and minimal markings). A functional analysis demonstrated that the Yakut tradition features a multifunctional model dominated by the comparative function (color as the basis for extended epic similes), while the Tatar tradition exhibits a bifunctional model emphasizing identificational and social status functions. A semantic analysis revealed different codes: in olonkho, the cosmological code dominates, with colors clearly linked to the tripartite structure of the universe (Upper – Middle – Lower worlds); in “Idegey”, the social code prevails, marking estate hierarchy and supplemented by Islamic ethical connotations. A comparative-typological study identified the common Turkic core of color symbolism (white/black opposition, positive marking of white, ambivalence of black, distinctiveness of piebald colors) and traces its transformation in local traditions. The Yakut tradition preserves the archaic mythological type with cosmological semantics and detailed color characteristics; the Tatar tradition demonstrates a transformed historical-heroic type with social marking and categorical color perception. The research contributes to understanding the mechanisms of epic tradition functioning, reveals the dialectics of universal and local elements in Turkic epic, and outlines prospects for further comparative study of color symbolism in folklore texts.

This article is to research of the onomasticon of the Kazakh heroic epic “Kobylandy Batyr”, translated into the Sakha (Yakut) language by A. N. Zhirkov, T. S. Kirillin, G. G. Torotoev and published in 2025 as part of the international book series “Epic Monuments of the Peoples of the World”. The author of the article analyzes and arranges the core of onomastic units of this epic from the point of view of translation transformation and etymologization. The main research methods are the comparative method, the method of lexico-semantic analysis, the descriptive method, and statistical analysis. Comparatively, 71 onomastic units were analyzed, as a result, 6 groups of proper names were identified: 38 anthroponyms, 11 toponyms (6oronyms, 5 astyonyms), 11 hydronyms (8 limnonyms, 3 potamonyms), 7 ethnonyms, 2 hagionyms, 2 zoonyms. Per semasiology, all onomastic units introduced into epic circulation represent a national and cultural value, and in one way or another contribute to the interpretation of the cultural code of the people. Kirillin, Zhirkov and Torotoev all use different translation methods in their translations, such as equivalent substitution, transcription, descriptive translation, addition, omission, out-of-text commentary, etc. The author of this article raises the problem of adequate translation of proper names from Kazakh to Yakut. The translation of onomastic units is a complex process, since they belong to the number of realities. Relative to the onomastic units used as comparison material, transcription is the dominant translation method (Kirillin – 63.5%, Zhirkov – 80.3%, Torotoev – 71.8%); the second position is occupied by equivalent substitution (Kirillin – 5.6%, Zhirkov – 12.6%, Torotoev – 28.2%). This proves the initiative of translators to follow the law of the Sakha language’s synharmonicity and actualize the lexical potential of the Sakha language, while preserving the centuries-old customary norms of alliterative versification. This article is relevant because it provides an optimal solution to the problem of difficult translation situations, where epic translators face difficulties in transferring onomastics from the original language to the translation language.

A comparative study of taboo and euphemistic hunting vocabulary in the epic folklore of the Turkic peoples is relevant due to the insufficient development of the comparative aspect, which limits the identification of both common Turkic archetypes and unique regional features. The scientific novelty lies in conducting the first comprehensive comparative analysis of this vocabulary based on the epic traditions of Bashkirs, Tuvans and Yakuts, which allowed us to establish a correlation between the specifics of economic activity, mythological and religious beliefs and the features of the lexical system. The purpose of the study is to identify the features, common Turkic foundations and ethnic specifics of taboo and euphemistic hunting vocabulary in Bashkir, Tuvan and Yakut epic folklore. To achieve this goal, the tasks of reconstructing the mythological and religious foundation of taboo, identifying semantic models of euphemization, analyzing the functions of vocabulary in ritual practice and determining the degree of systematic tabooing were solved. The study was conducted using a set of methods: the comparative historical method allowed to identify common Turkic roots and specific features of vocabulary development; a semantic analysis was aimed at identifying patterns of euphemization; a functional analysis considered the role of taboo vocabulary in the folklore text; cultural and historical approach provided interpretation of linguistic facts in the context of traditional culture. The research material is based on the texts of the epic folklore of the three peoples and special scientific works. The analysis made it possible to establish that the basis of the system of taboos and euphemisms is an archaic animistic and totemic worldview. Universal semantic models of euphemization were revealed: anthropomorphization (“grandfather”, “master”), sacralization (“prince of the forest”) and attributive description (“clubfoot”). Ethnic specifics were determined: the Bashkirs have a developed cult of totemic ancestors, the Tuvinians have ecological and ethical norms; the complex hierarchy of spirits-ichchi and the maximum consistency of vocabulary among the Yakuts (up to 140 euphemisms for the bear). The article analyzes the multifunctional nature of vocabulary, which implements the functions of a verbal talisman, ritual-initiatory, ideological-etiological, ecological-ethical and socializing. Prospects of research and directions of further work. The results obtained open up prospects for further comparative studies based on other Turkic traditions, as well as for a diachronic study of the evolution of hunting vocabulary. The practical significance of the work lies in the possibility of using the results in the preparation of works on the lexicology of the Turkic languages, in teaching linguistic disciplines and developing courses on intercultural communication and ethnolinguistics.

Polyfunctional verb forms, traditionally represented as participles in Turkic languages, are one of the most important building blocks of their grammatical structure. For this reason, and also because any language undergoes changes during its historical development under the influence of various linguistic or extralinguistic factors, introducing new elements into its form and content, the study of the grammatical essence of participles in one aspect or another remains a pressing issue in Turkology today. Despite the efforts of representatives of different generations of Turkologists, it is premature to claim that a unified criterion for the grammatical evaluation of these verb forms and the constructions they form has been developed. The current situation appears to be due to the complexity of the problem associated with the uniqueness of participles in each Turkic language, the differences in approaches to interpreting their functional characteristics, and the fact that fundamental concepts of syntax have not been fully developed in theoretical general linguistics, leading to different interpretations of the same phenomenon in related languages. In this regard, this article attempts to review the history of the study of participles in Turkic languages from various perspectives. Due to space limitations, this article attempts to understand the Turkological works completed in the second half of the 20th century, which served as the foundation for the formation and further development of scholarly schools.

The scientific problem of studying the language of one of the indigenous peoples of the Russian Federation - the Dolgan - is an urgent task of the humanities. The Dolgan language is one of the little-studied Turkic languages and is currently on the verge of extinction due to the small number of speakers, narrowing of the environment and scope of use. This trend is characteristic not only of the Dolgan language of Taimyr and Yakutia, but also of other indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia, the Arctic and the Far East. The purpose of the article is a retrospective study of the history of the origin of the Dolgan people and their language, as well as a description of its current status and development prospects. The material of the article is published works of domestic and foreign researchers, as well as the author’s own materials collected during expeditions to Taimyr and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in different years. The article uses such research methods as descriptive, comparative- historical and direct observation of the language situation in the process of long-term practical work with Dolgan students at the Faculty of Peoples of the Far North and the Institute of Peoples of the North of the Herzen State Pedagogical University, as well as at the Department of Northern Philology of the Ammosov North-EasternFederal University. The article presents a brief outline of the grammar of the Dolgan language, a description of its main phonetic and lexical features. The work takes into account the materials and conclusions of the most important scientific works and educational and methodological works on the Dolgan language. The results of the work are presented in the form of a summary in the short conclusion of the article, which reflects the practical significance and prospects for studying the modern Dolgan language.

The scientific novelty of the study is in the fact that for the first time an attempt was made to conduct a comparative analysis of the nominal vocabulary of the Evenk and Mongolian languages. The relevance of this article is indisputable it is determined by the lack of knowledge of the vocabulary of the Evenk and Mongolian languages in a comparative aspect. The purpose of the article is to identify common and borrowed adjectives of structurally similar languages - the Evenk and Mongolian languages, which appeared as a result of their historical interaction, as well as to determine the specific language - the source of borrowing; consider lexical-semantic groups of adjectives. The research is conducted on the basis of comparative analysis. The sources of the article were dialectological dictionaries of the Evenk and Mongolian languages, ethnographic and historical materials. The supposed common Altai layer of adjectives in the Evenk language is highlighted; common Mongol-Tungus-Manchu layer of vocabulary based on the adjectives. As you can see, the vocabulary of the Evenk language contains a large number of Buryatisms and Mongolisms that were included at different times. The proposed list of lexical borrowings is not exhaustive, their maximum expansion and etymological analysis were not the main aim of the study. When identifying borrowed adjectives, cultural and economic influences were taken into account.

This article examines the artistic translation of the Russian text of the story “Political Action” by the Kazakh writer A. Askarov into the Yakut language, carried out by the Yakut writer and translator V. N. Lukovtsev. In the course of the study, the characteristics of the text in Russian were carried out as an intermediary text, acting as a link in intercultural interaction; ways of preserving the national coloring of the Kazakh culture were considered; as well as the equivalence of the transfer of expressive and stylistic aspects when translating the story into the Yakut language with the participation of the Russian languageas an intermediary language. The purpose of the study is to analyze the expressive and stylistic aspects of the translation of national literature into the Yakut language through the participation of an intermediary language (Russian). The Yakut language differs significantly from other Turkic languages, therefore the Russian language for the Sakha people is the language of interethnic communication between the Turkic-speaking peoples. The relevance of the article is due to the insufficient development of the problem of translating stylistic devices of related literatures and understanding of national stylistics in translation. To identify the transfer of national coloring to the Yakut language, interjections, addresses, phraseological units were used as examples. The analysis demonstrates that when translating, it is possible to achieve that humorous, satirical effect of the original text, which consists in the author’s composed use of turns of official business speech, cliched combinations of journalism, colloquial vocabulary, phraseological units and artistic and visual means of language. As a result, it was revealed that the Yakut text acquired a satirical content adequate to the original text with the effect of humor and irony. The translation strategy, focused on conveying the individual style of the author of the work, forces the translator to choose a syntax as close as possible to the syntax of the translation language.
